Name: Briar Morris
Age: 26
Equestrian aspirations: To compete 5* eventing and compete at all the biggest tracks around the world.
Got my first pony Brandy at the age of 3 and he was a 12.2hh chestnut speed demon who taught me the ropes of going fast and holding on and he most importantly gave me my love of horses.
I was lucky enough to to go to the Kooralbyn International School for highschool where I was in the equestrian mastery program. We got to ride and have lessons with some of Australia’s best coaches including and not limited to Olympian Rebel Morrow. This time of my life gave me my love for jumping and eventing. The very first one day event I went to I was eliminated at the very first showjump and then again at the 3rd cross country jump on a off the track thoroughbred dressage school master (Hoppy). He had a lot of jumping baggage that taught me how to persist with horses but my whole first year of eventing I didn’t get through 1 competition without being eliminated. After a lot of persistence I managed to get Hoppy to Pre-Novice (now 1*) eventing. I also got to ride a young off the track thoroughbred who really new nothing and together and with the help of my coaches I got to compete him 1* (now 2*) eventing and Mini Prix showjumping. He helped me win many competitions and really installed my love for jumping the biggest jumps I could find. Unfortunately he got really sick and had to be retired from the big stuff. After high school I spent 4 years working with wild brumbies and starting horses for other people. I also brought a 3 day old colt in 2016 who I had been patiently waiting for him to grow to become my future eventing horse. That young foal was HR who I ride and compete now and hopefully together we can compete at the highest level of eventing. I still have a passion for Brumbies and their plight and have a young brumby who I hope to spend a bit more time with through winter to start eventing next year.
